The lilac-breasted roller is Kenya’s national bird because of the wide array of colours on its feather coat. In total, it has around 8 colours: green, white, black, yellow, turquoise, dark blue, reddish-brown, and lilac. The colours represent the many different tribes that compose Kenya’s community. It is a beautiful reference to the rich diversity that exists within Kenya.

Carved out of a fallen jacaranda tree branch this charming ornament can be hung from its satin ribbon on a doorway, in a window or Christmas tree. Or use it to decorate your bag.

We are a certified member of the World Fair Trade organisation and each of our ornaments is signed by the artisan who made it.Each ornament carries the name of its maker.

Size: H4/W10 cm

These products are hand carved from freshly fallen branches of the jacaranda tree. We never cut down trees for our products. While the branches are still soft, they are cut and carved into ornaments and then dried before sanding. The natural wood ornaments are finished without chemical treatment, bringing out the natural colour of the wood. The painted ornaments are finished with water-based acrylic paints and coated with clear varnish.

Every Mifuko ornaments is unique. All pieces are handmade by skilled men and women in rural villages - our Team Kenya.

The core idea behind Mifuko stands in its name: in Swahili, ‘mifuko’ means pocket. With Mifuko, everyone is left with something valuable in their pocket.
